There were many great discoveries in chemistry. Each one opened the door to new discoveries. The first one was oxygen. It was found with different experimentation and the person who named it wasn't the person who originally found it. Urea was also discovered. This was important because it was made from non-organic material as well as organic material. Atoms were also discovered and considered the "ultimate particle." Atoms lead to the discovery of molecules. More substances were identified as elements, and then added to the periodic table of elements. Mendelev came up with the system for the periodic table of elements.
The spectroscope was created to see different colors which indicated what atoms were present. Cesium and Rubidium were found using the spectroscope. Sodium was found in the Sun using the spectroscope. Radiant matter lead to the discovery of electrons which were electrically charged atoms. X-rays made scientists investigate radiation. Uranium was found to be radioactive. Murie Curie and her husband worked with uranium and other radioactive materials. This lead to radiation poisoning and Murie Curie died of lukemia due to that. Rutherford found alpha and beta particles, as well as gamma rays. Plastic was found and produced. It was made by chain particles. This was a polymer. Buckyballs and buckytubes were found in space. They are the stiffest things in the universe. Much stronger than steel. Nanotechnology is building things from scratch. Nanotechnology and chemistry are intertwined.
